The chronically ill, discriminated against in Romania

More than seven in ten Romanians think that the local health system discriminates patients with chronical diseases, according to a study made by a chronical disease patients’ organization. Some 85% of the survey respondents said they knew what a chronical disease was. Some 63% said they know people with chronical conditions such as chronical hepatitis, cardiovascular diseases, HIV, Alzheimer, Parkinson, tuberculosis, psoriasis, diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis and others. More than 36% think that society discriminates against some categories of chronically ill, while 73% think the healthcare system in Romania also discriminates against patients, reports local Mediafax. People believe the biggest problems for the chronically sick are limited access to the right treatment. editor@romania-insider.com
