The biggest synagogue in Romania reopens for the public

The Neologist Synagogue in Oradea, the biggest sanctuary of this king in Romania and third-biggest in Europe, officially reopened on Thursday, November 26. The synagogue, which was built between 1877 and 1878 on the bank of the Crisul Repede river, has been closed for repairs for almost two years, according to Digi 24news station. The building is considered one of the most valuable architectural monuments in Oradea. It was built in the Neo-Moorish style based on the plans made by Oradea’s chief engineer, David Busch. The synagogue can take in up to 1,000 people and will host concerts and other cultural events. It was revamped with EU funds, based on a project made in cooperation with the authorities in Debrecen, Hungary. The investment was EUR 1.6 million.
