Telecom operators in Romania pay the state EUR 10 mln for new licenses

Local telecom operators Orange, Vodafone, RCS&RDS, National Radiocommunications Company (SNR), and 2K Telecom will pay the state licensing fees of EUR 10.1 million until December 2, this year. They had acquired through auction the right to use radio frequencies in the 3,4 to 3,8 GHz band, according to Romania’s Communication Authority ANCOM. The new rights will enter into force starting January 1, next year, and will be available for ten years. Operators will be able to supply data transmission services and access broadband Internet using these frequencies. ANCOM allocated 255 MHz through this auction, up 65% compared to the current licenses. Orange Romania took the most blocks (14) and will pay the largest amount of EUR 3.9 million. RCS & RDS came next with 1.88 million and SNR with 1.85 million. Vodafone will pay EUR 1.7 million and 2K Telecom, EUR 740,000. editor@romania-insider.com
