Tata Motors plans to export Nano car model to Romania

Indian carmaker Tata Motors plans to export its low cost model Nano, the cheapest car in the world, to several countries, among which Romania. The company has recently finalized a study which showed the car can be adapted to fit the needs of new markets like Romania, Turkey, Brasil, Thailand, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Tata Motors is active on the Romanian market through Isotlar Motors, which imports the brand on the Romanian market and sells cars and car parts. Tata Motors and the Nano model would become competition fort Dacia – Renault, which sells Dacia cars on the Romanian market, currently the cheapest options for new cars in the country. The Nano model, showcased in January 2008, is three meters long, has four doors, five seats, no airbags, no air conditioning, nor radio. The car sells for USD 5,000 in Taiwan. Tata Motors Limited is India's largest automobile company, with consolidated revenues of USD 20 billion in 2009-2010. Following a strategic alliance with Fiat in 2005, it has set up an industrial joint venture with Fiat Group Automobiles at Ranjangaon (Maharashtra) to produce both Fiat and Tata cars and Fiat powertrains. Through subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Spain. Among them is Jaguar Land Rover, a business comprising the two iconic British brands that was acquired in 2008. In 2004, it acquired the Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company, South Korea's second largest truck maker. In 2005, Tata Motors acquired a 21% stake in Hispano Carrocera, a reputed Spanish bus and coach manufacturer, and subsequently the remaining stake in 2009. editor@romania-insider.com
