Swedish company buys 15 dialysis centers in Romania

Swedish company Diaverum, which is active in the local dialysis market, has acquired 15 dialysis centers belonging to the International Healthcare Systems (IHS) Romania, a company owned by the Greek family Sofianos. Diaverum has thus doubled its business in Romania and reached the second position in the local dialysis market, after German competitor Fresenius, reports local Mirsanu.ro. Diaverum now has 28 dialysis centers in Romania and over 3,200 clients, four years after entering the country. The deal’s value hasn’t been announced. However, Diaverum Romania has recently boosted its capital by EUR 32 million, which could hint to the transaction’s value. A Swedish business newspaper has estimated the transaction to some EUR 54 million, based on the number of patients Diaverum has taken from HIS, which is 1,750. The Romanian state pays on average some EUR 12,500 per year for each dialysis patient. editor@romania-insider.com
