Statistics Office estimations: Romania’s GDP up 1.7 percent in first half of 2013

Romania’s economy was up 1.7 percent in the first half of this year over the same period in 2012, both as gross series and seasonally adjusted series, according to National Statistics Office INS’s recent estimations. Romania’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2013 was, in real terms, with 0.3 percent higher compared to the first quarter of the year, in seasonally adjusted series. “Compared to the same quarter of 2012, the GDP went up 1.3 percent in gross series, and 1.2 percent in seasonally adjusted series,” reads the INS statement. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently revised the economic growth forecast for Romania, expecting the GDP to go up to 2 percent in 2013 and 2.25 percent in 2014. The previous forecast of the IMF and the Romanian authorities included a growth of 1.6 percent for this year and 2 percent for 2014. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
