State employees damage Romania by EUR 2.6 bln in nine years

Romania’s Court of Accounts has discovered illegal payments worth RON 11.9 billion (EUR 2.6 billion) made by state authorities between January 1, 2009, and June 30 this year, according to an activity report. Regional institutions’ budgets were damaged by about RON 4 billion (EUR 870 million) whereas the state budget recorded a RON 3.57 billion (EUR 776 million) damage and state-owned companies lost some RON 2.37 billion (EUR 515 million), reports local Economica.net. One of the causes that have led to these damages is the staff’s lack of training in monitoring public procurement and follow up contracts. The Court of Accounts has notified prosecutors for most of these damages, namely RON 11.35 billion (EUR 2.5 billion). The institution has recently published a report presenting its activity since 2009 until now as the Parliament appointed a new Court of Accounts president. editor@romania-insider.com
