Social networks make Romanians buy more than they need

About 65% of Romanians said that social networks make them buy more than they need, according to the European Consumer Payment Report by Intrum, a European company specialized in credit management. At European level, 39% of people said that social networks determine them to buy more than needed. “Data show that exposing a vulnerable group to social pressure can lead to unhealthy long-term indebtedness,” Intrum president Mikael Ericson said, reports local News.ro. Parents are most vulnerable to social pressure, being forced to spend for their children more than they can afford. Four out of ten parents have experienced pressure over the past year, feeling socially pressured to buy for their children things they were not financially comfortable with. The percentage is even higher among young parents aged 18-34, namely five out of ten parents. Romania has also seen a massive increase in consumer loans in the last two years. About 35% of Romanians believe that it's okay to buy goods such as TVs, computers or phones with consumer loans.
