Only 20% of Romanian SMEs carry out export activities

Only 20% of the Romanian small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) carry out export activities, according to a survey by UPS and Kantar Millward Brown. They have a share of 25% in Romania’s total exports. Most of the SMEs that export products and services are located in Bucharest and Ilfov (23.4%), in the North-Western region (14.4%) or the Central region (13.1%). The Western part of Romania includes counties such as Timis, Arad, Bihor and Satu Mare. “SMEs that carry out exports are experiencing higher revenue growth and are more confident in the future,” Jim Kearney, Managing Director of UPS Romania, Hungary and Greece, said. More than a half of the small companies that carried out exports have recorded revenue growth in the last three years, he added.
