School completed with Chevron money, inaugurated in Romania under police supervision

A primary school completed in the village of Paltinis, Vaslui county in North-Eastern Romania, with money from Chevron, was inaugurated on Monday, September 15, under police and gendarmerie supervision, to “prevent acts similar to those in Pungesti,” reports local Mediafax. The American company Chevron has environmental permit for shale gas exploration in Paltinis area. Late-last year, protestors gathered in front of the perimeter owned by Chevron at Silistea-Pungesti in Romania, chanting slogans against the exploration of shale gas in the area, with some incidents taking place between protesters and gendarmes. Started seven years ago, the school in Paltinis needed some EUR 340,000 to be completed, according to Mediafax.
