Sausages from Romania rejected on the European market due to controversial colour E 129

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) has included sausages from Romania containing an undeclared colour E 129 on a list of rejected products on the European market, according to local news agency Mediafax. The listing on the RASFF came after a notification from Italy, according to the report. As a result, the Romanian smoked pork sausages were withdrawn from the market. Specifically, the meat products contained the undeclared colour E 129 - Allura Red AC at a rate of 1.2 mg per kg. The European authorities have taken this decision at the request of the Italian Ministry of Health, writes Mediafax. However, the name of the producer was not revealed. Allura Red AC - E 129 is an orange-red colour used in sweets, drinks and condiments, medications and cosmetics.
