Romania's smaller Black Sea port of Midia, near Petromidia refinery, to become fishery harbor with EU funding

The Romanian harbor of Midia will become a fishery harbor with the aid of a EUR 5 million European financing package. With the contract expected to be signed by the end of the year, the project, will add fishery harbor facilities next to the existing harbor facilities at Midia. Plans are presently 90 percent done on paper, with only several authorization procedures still needed, according to Lucia Varga, the Minister Delegate for Waters, Forests and Fishery. Once the project starts, it will take two years for the Midia fishery harbor, which will spread across 10 hectares, to become reality. The new harbor is a joint project of the Navodari city hall, the County Council and the National Agency for Fishery. The port of Midia is located on the Black Sea coastline around 13 kilometers north of he main port of Constanta. It is one of the satellite ports of Constanța and was designed and built to serve the adjacent industrial and petrochemical facilities. The port is mainly used for the supply of crude oil for the nearby Petromidia Refinery, which belongs to oil and gas company Rompetrol. editor@romania-insider.com
