Romania's private health insurance sector, up by a quarter in 2015

The private health insurance market rose by 25% in Romania in 2015, said Marius Popescu, general manager of the local life insurer NN Asigurari de Viata, the biggest company in this market. The market could grow by over 30% this year, he added, reports local Agerpres. The private health insurance sector has a share of 0.01% in the GDP. It is below the level in Bulgaria, where the sector accounts for 0.08% of the GDP. “Romanians are passive about their health,” Popescu said. “They do very little prevention.” One in four Romanians plan to acquire a private health insurance in the next 12 months, according to a survey carried out by Ipsos Research for NN Romania. NN Asigurari de Viata underwrote gross premiums of EUR 141 million last year, up by 2.4% compared to 2014. editor@romania-insider.com
