Which are Romania’s largest agricultural exports?

Romania’s agricultural exports reached EUR 5.4 billion last year, a 6.1% increase over 2013, according to data presented by the Ministry of Agriculture. The country’s largest exports were wheat, corn, and cigarettes. Romania exported almost 5 million tons of wheat, worth EUR 959 million, 3.7 million tons of corn, worth EUR 755 million, and cigarettes worth EUR 699 million. Other significant exports were sunflower seeds and oil, rapeseeds, barley, live sheep and goats, chicken meat, and live cattle. Exports of rapeseeds and walnuts recorded some of the largest increases. Rapeseed exports increased by EUR 146 million compared to 2013, to EUR 338 million. Romania also exported 23% more walnuts and got EUR 60.4 million, 56% more than in 2013. Romania’s agricultural imports were EUR 4.9 billion, 2.6% higher than in 2013. The country paid 28% more for raw tobacco (EUR 162.4 million in total), 19% more for chicken meat (EUR 146 million), 16% more for chocolate (EUR 164 million), and 6.5% more for pork (EUR 286 million). The agricultural trade surplus was EUR 514 million, 58% higher than in 2013 (EUR 325 million). The European Union is Romania’s largest agricultural trade partner standing for 61% of the total exports and 81.4% of the imports.
