Romania’s inflation rate goes up to 1.21% in April, on higher fuel, tobacco prices

Romanian consumer prices rose by 0.27 percent in April 2014 compared to March, while compared to April 2013 the growth was of 1.21 percent, according to the Romanian National Statistics Institute (INS). The inflation rate keeps close to the historical minimum of 1.04 percent recorded in March. The low inflation is due to food prices which decreased by 2.29 percent in April 2014 compared to April 2013. Non-food product prices grew by 3.04 percent in the same period while prices for services were up 3.91 percent. Compared to March, food prices were down 0.06 percent due to lower prices for vegetables, eggs, oil and sugar. However, non-food prices grew by 0.67 percent, because of higher fuel prices (+3.16 percent compared to March 2014) and more expensive tobacco (+1.77 percent).
