Romania’s industry turnover declined by 1.7% in January 2016 compared to the same month of 2015, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The mining industry’s turnover went down by 3.6% and the manufacturing industry’s turnover contracted by 1.6%. When looking at the main industrial groups, the intermediary goods industry dropped by 7.8%, the energy industry declined by 3.3%, and the non-durable goods industry contracted by 2%. However, the durable goods industry went up by 12.1% and the capital goods industry increased by 4% year-on-year. The value of new orders in the manufacturing industry declined by 3.7% in January compared to the same month of last year.
