Romania's Highways Company pays EUR 400,000 for expertise of sunken highway

Romania’s National Highways Company (CNADNR) will launch a public tender for a technical expertise on the work performed on the third segment of the Orastie-Sibiu highway. The 15-month contract amounts to EUR 402,000, without VAT, reports local Economica.net. The authorities had to close down the segment only ten months after its inauguration as it displayed large cracks formed in the road. It was called the “sunken highway”. The state company is now trying to understand what has caused the problems on the highway segment. A report made by the Transport Ministry’s Control Body, published at the end of February this year, showed that the highway segment had cracks even before its inauguration. CNADNR concluded a contract for the construction of the third lot of the Orastie-Sibiu highway with the Italian company Salini Impregilo in 2011. editor@romania-insider.com
