Romania's gun exports double in 2013

Romania's gun exports doubled in 2013, reaching almost EUR 180 million, reports local Digi24. Within Europe, the Netherlands is the customer which paid the biggest amount, of EUR 70 million. The Dutch government bought a cargo ship for nuclear waste, a hull for logistical support and construction documents for a multi-role frigate, according to the department for export control. The weapons sold in most European countries and overseas are for civilian use. Romania's most important customers include the United States, Israel, Britain and Morocco. Americans bought a few dozen simple machine guns and anti -aircraft, nearly 10,000 guns and semiautomatic rifles, sporting guns, grenades and guiding equipment or aircraft accessories. A good market for guns and military components sales is Africa. Although some countries have embargo for the purchase of such products, others have purchasing power and the weapons manufactured in Romania can be successfully used even by the military. editor@romania-insider.com
