Romania's Government wants at least EUR 2 bln from eurobonds

Romania’s Finance Ministry is currently preparing the necessary documents and selecting the banks that will manage a new euro-denominated bond issuance. The Government wants to get this year at least EUR 2 billion from the external markets, said Stefan Nanu, Treasury Director, cited by local Wall-street.ro. He said that the Government is not in a hurry and doesn’t want to issue eurobonds immediately, but wants to have the documentation ready to be able to issue bonds when a significant opportunity arises. Last year, Romania carried out four bond issuances and raised a record amount of over USD 5 billion (EUR 4.5 billion), by selling 10-year and 30-year debt. Finance Minister Darius Valcov said at the beginning of February this year that Romania could wait until the second half of this year to sell eurobonds, as the high financial reserves offer the Government the chance to target lower yields. editor@romania-insider.com
