Romania's former PM Emil Boc steps down from leadership of Democratic Liberal Party after low local elections results

The president of the Democratic Liberal Party in Romania (PDL) Emil Boc (in picture), formerly the Prime Minister, resigned from the helm of the party, along with other members of the party's leadership, after getting lower than expected votes in the recent local elections. The party will organize a new meeting of its ruling core on Sunday, to establish the details for a new General Meeting, where new leaders will be elected.

The former Prime Minister, who recently won a seat as mayor of Cluj – Napoca, his home town, said PDL steered Romania out of crisis, and the measures taken by the party were good and correct, but that they damaged the party's image and ultimately the number of votes it received. The resignation announcements came after Elena Udrea first stepped down from the helm of the Bucharest branch of the party.
