Romania's external debt adds extra EUR 1.3 billion in January

Romania's external debt went up by 1.4 percent in January, to EUR 92 billion, an extra EUR 1.3 billion compared to the end of 2010, according to Romania's Central Bank (BNR). The medium and long-term debt made 79 percent of the total debt in January, while the weight of the short term debt reached 20.8 percent of the total external debt. Romania has a short term debt of EUR 19.15 billion, up 2.2 percent compared to the end of 2010. The medium and long-term debt reached EUR 72.9 billion, also up 1.2 percent on December 2010. The direct public debt, which includes external loans contracted by the Finance Ministry and the local authorities, went slightly down by 0.39 percent, to EUR 15.7 billion. Meanwhile, the guaranteed external debt was down 1.3 percent, to EUR 1.68 billion. Deposits set by non-residents went down to EUR 8.19 billion, from EUR 8.2 billion at the end of December last year. editor@romania-insider.com
