Romania has drawn EUR 5.8 billion worth of EU funds in the current financial exercise, reaching an absorption rate of 19%, slightly below the EU average of 20%. Most EU funds went into education, healthcare, IT, infrastructure and human capital, EU funds minister Rovana Plumb said in a press conference
on Friday, July 27
. She added that the goal is to surpass the average absorption rate in EU shortly. The EU open financing program currently available to Romania from the European Union currently amount to some EUR 24.3 billion and the contracts signed so far amount to EUR 13.1 billion, compared to EUR 2.5 billion at the end of June 2017. The minister also said that Romania got an 8% higher financial allocation for the 2021-2027 period, which shows that the EU acknowledges Romania’s need to develop and trusts the country.
