Romania’s electricity exports up by more than a quarter

Romania’s electricity exports increased by 27% in the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2014. The growth was due to Romania’s market coupling with the markets in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, according to Romania’s Energy Authority ANRE. Romania exported 4.5 TWh electricity between January and May, compared to 3.5 TWh in the first five months of 2014, and it imported 1.7 TWh compared to 1.35 TWh last year, reports local Agerpres. Starting November 2014, Romania’s Day Ahead Market has been coupled with the markets in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, allowing electricity traders from these markets to buy energy from Romania.
