Romania posted a current account deficit of EUR 3.2 billion in the first eight months of this year, a drop of 19.7 percent compared to the same period of 2010, according to the country's Central Bank (BNR). The drop was due mainly to the decrease in trade deficit by 11.6 percent and the increase in current transfers surplus by 20.1 percent (on the back of net transfers to the general government). On the services side, Romania accounted for a deficit of EUR 543 million until August this year, up from EUR 516 million in August 2010.
