Romania's Covasna county gets EUR 7.6 mln EBRD loan for water infrastructure improvements

Covasna county's water supply is the latest to receive a European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) blessing, with EUR 7.6 million financing. Water services for over 100,000 residents in the central Romanian county will be improved. The recently approved loan will allow water utility company S.C. Gospodarie Comunala S.A. to modernize the water supply and sewage network in Sfantu Gheorghe, Targu Secuiesc, Covasna and Intorsura Buzaului.

The project is the latest in the EBRD funded scheme to improve water infrastructure in Romania and follows similar investments in Bistrita-Nasaud, Braila, Brasov, Buzau, Constanta, Dambovita, Iasi, Sibiu and Timis counties. So far the EBRD has helped mobilize more than EUR 940 million of EU funding for Romania’s water and wastewater facilities. Total EBRD investments in Romania's economy have now reached around EUR 5.7 billion, since the beginning of the bank's operations in the country. Liam Lever, liam@romania-insider.com
