Romania's Competition Council starts probe on film distribution market

The Competition Council carried out yesterday an unannounced control at the headquarters of Imedia Plus Group, the company which owns the www.cinemagia.ro platform, within an investigation targeting film distribution in Romania’s movie theatres. Imedia Plus Group and other companies distributing movies in Romania, as well as the companies running movie theatres, might have concluded anti-competition deals for splitting the market and fixing the prices, according to the Competition Council. About 50 companies are investigated. Some of them are headquartered in Romania whereas others are based in other countries. The inspectors seized documents during the controls. In January this year, the Competition Council fined film distributor Intercomfilm Distribution and cinema operator Hollywood Multiplex Operations with almost EUR 37,000 for fixing the movie ticket prices. editor@romania-insider.com
