The Romanian National Bank (BNR) will try to temper the Romanian currency’s strengthening currency, after the leu appreciated again against the euro and the EUR/RON exchange rate fell near the Central Bank's comfort zone last week, according to ING Bank Romania analysts, quoted by Mediafax. The leu gained 0.2% on Friday and closed the day at a RON 4.4070/EUR rate. “The trading volumes were two times higher than the daily average in July. The sale interest on the euro/leu rate dominated the day, and the pair tested for a little while the Central Bank’s comfort zone of RON 4.40/EUR,” according to ING. The official exchange rate fell this year only one day below the RON 4.4/ EUR threshold, on April 4, when BNR announced a RON 4.3965/EUR rate.
