Romania's Cash-for-Bangers program: Up to EUR 2,140 subsidies for ecological cars

Romanians who buy a green car this year through the Cash-for-Bangers (Rabla) program can receive subsidies of up to EUR 2,140 (RON 9,500). They can get two extra bonuses of RON 1, 500 (EUR 337), besides the standard scrapping premium of about RON 6,500 (EUR 1,466), reports local Economica.net. However, to receive the full amount of RON 9,500 (EUR 2,140), one has to buy a car that has a EURO 6 engine and a lower than 100gr per km emission level. Hybrid cars are still very expensive and have not yet become very popular on Romania’s market. The Romanian Cash-for-Bangers program allows people who own old cars to scrap them and receive vouchers which they can use when buying a new car.
