Romanians spend EUR 1.2 bln in bars and cafes

Romanians spend RON 5.5 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) every year in bars and cafes, according to market research company Euromonitor, reports local Ziarul Financiar. The US group Starbucks, which operates in a franchise system in Romania, has a market share of 1%. Other international cafe chains which entered Romania include McCafe, part of the McDonald’s group, Brioche Dorée, Caffe Ritazza, and Gloria Jeans. Costa Coffee and Dunkin Donuts also entered the local market, but they left the country during the financial crisis. The cafe market was strongly affected in that period as Romanians gave up the expenses deemed unnecessary during the crisis years. editor@romania-insider.com
