Romanians make the third largest expat community in Brussels

In the last 20 years, Romanians have become the third largest immigrant community in Brussels, according to a study conducted by the Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis, cited by RTBF. The number of Polish, Romanian and Bulgarian nationals has increased dramatically in the Belgian capital since early-2000s, shows the study. According to study coordinator Jean-Pierre Hermia, their number increased from 2,000 in the 90s to 65,000 nowadays. The study reveals that Romanians represent the most numerous population among those who migrated to Brussels. “There are almost 34,000 in the Brussels-Capital region,” said Hermia. Most of them live in the neighborhoods located northwest of the Pentagon of Brussels.
