Romanians extend anti-president protest abroad, rallying in London, Dublin, Vienna

Romanians in London extended the ongoing protest against Basescu and the Romanian government to the British Capital. Protesting outside the Romanian embassy in London, they chanted last week against Romanian president Basescu, saying he has lost support among Romanians abroad. The votes cast by Romanians abroad made a difference in the 2009 elections, when Basescu won 78 percent of the votes in the Romanian diaspora, thus winning the elections against opponent Mircea Geoana. Media reports and opposing parties pointed to irregularities in the votes cast abroad in 2009. The protestors' message in London mirrored the calls back home for the dismissal of the Government, reinstatement of the monarchy and the resignation of all Parliament members. Romanians in Vienna protested recently in front of the Romanian Embassy in the Austrian capital, while Romanians rallied in Dublin too. editor@romania-insider.com
