Romanians create new, cheaper military robots that can detect and destroy explosives

Romanian students and teachers from the Land Forces Academy in Sibiu, central Romania, invented two robots that can detect explosive devices and destroy them without putting people’s lives at risk. The robots were patented at the State Office for Inventions OSIM and could soon be used by the Romanian Army, reports local Digi24. The inventors worked on this project for over four years. The first mini-robot can detect the explosives from far away, while the second one destroys them. These robots are several times smaller than military robots currently used in combat zones (in picture). Because they have lower energy consumption and can be powered by the sun, their implementation cost will be lower compared to that of similar robots. “Such a robot can cost between EUR 50,000 and EUR 70,000. I think that we can implement these technologies at a half-price of EUR 25,000-30,000,” said Dănuț Moșteanu, head of the Technical Sciences. Department, cited by Digi24.
