Almost 35,000 Romanians have bank deposits over EUR 100,000

The number of Romanians with bank deposits over EUR 100,000 reached almost 35,000 at the end of June, according to Romania’s National Bank (BNR). All bank deposits up to EUR 100,000 are fully guaranteed in accordance with European law, which means that clients who have such deposits get fully reimbursed in case their bank goes bankrupt. Over 10 million people had bank deposits in Romania at the end of June. Romania also recorded over 736,800 corporate accounts during the same period. Over 95% of these accounts fell within the guaranteed ceiling, according to BNR. Romania’s banking system had 36 active lenders at the end of June. Their net assets reached EUR 87.5 billion. The average non-performing loan ratio amounted to 8.32% in the first six months of this year. editor@romania-insider.com
