Romanian-Turkish trade up 30% in the first quarter of the year, to EUR 1.57 bln

Trade between Romania and Turkey in the first quarter of 2011 totaled EUR 1.57 billion, up about 30 percent compared to same period in 2010, leading Turkey on the fourth place among the most important foreign investors in Romania, according to the Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD). Exports amounted to more than EUR 964 million, while imports reached about EUR 605 million. The main groups of traded products are metals, electrical equipment and vehicles, mineral and vegetable products, but also chemicals, plastics and textiles. “Despite difficult economic conditions, the active Turkish businessmen in Romania have confidence in the growth potential of this country and will continue their investment plans”, said Omar Susli, President of TIAD. According to official figures, there are about 12,000 registered companies with Turkish capital in Romania, with a total value of over EUR 520 million. Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD) is a non-profit organization, established in 1993, at the initiative of Turkish businessmen in Romania. Its main objective is to develop economic, social and cultural relations between Turkey and Romania. Currently, TIAD has 146 members.
