Romanian print readership down 25% in five years while advertising budgets get slashed by 85%

Print media readership has fallen by a quarter over the last five years in Romania, while advertising budgets were down much more during the period, by some 80 to 85 percent, including discounts, according to Silviu Ispas, president of the Romanian Media Circulation agency BRAT. Print is in a difficult situation everywhere in the world, and the situation for print publications in Romania is also very delicate, according to Ispas.

While ratecard prices went down by 60 percent, bigger discounts are also being given to advertising clients, to discounts of some 75 percent in 2012, from discounts of 40 percent in 2008. Meanwhile, print media circulation was down by 40 percent, according to BRAT. The drop for the print media is partially caused by poor distribution, not only by the decreasing number of readers, according to media owners. editor@romania-insider.com
