Romanian Post to lay off 2,500 people and make EUR 26 million investments this year

The Romanian Post (Posta Romana) plans EUR 26 million investments for this year, which will be used for IT business reorganization, purchase of computing techniques and development of transport infrastructure. In order to get the money for this investment, the company has come up with several measures. One of them is to negotiate with labor unions for voluntary departures. “For the year 2011, Posta Romana has proposed a set of measures aimed at transforming the company into a profitable and competitive organization. This will lead inevitably to a reduction in personnel. In this regard, we are considering the dynamics and job fluctuations in a company with tens of thousands of employees.”, according to a source from Posta Romana, quoted by Romanian media. Around 2,500 employees in total could leave the company this year. “Currently we are in the phase of regulatory departures and early or normal retirements. We hope not to come to forced layoffs.”, according to the same source. Posta Romana has currently 35,000 employees, making it the company with the largest number of employees in Romania. In terms of turnover, this year, Posta Romana estimates a slight increase compared to 2010 when it made almost EUR 336 million. It posted a loss of around EUR 28 million last year, a decrease compared to the previous year. Its tunrover also went down 4 percent last year on 2009. Posta Romana is the national post operator and is owned by the Romanian state. Fondul Proprietatea also owns 25 percent of the Romanian Post.
