Romanian PM: Budget draft for 2017, based on 4% economic growth

Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said in an interview for local Digi24 that the budget project for next year will take into account a “realistic economic growth” of over 4% and a budget deficit below 3%. He added that the budget draft also considered the fixed costs resulted from certain laws. He didn’t mention, though, if he referred to the law increasing wages in the public sector, which is now under review at the Constitutional Court. Regarding the unitary salary project law, Ciolos said that the Government aimed to apply increases in the salaries of public sector employees starting next year and until 2021. He explained that the low salaries will grow in the first years, and later on, the high salaries will also go up “a bit’, in order to rebalance and bring fairness into the system, he added. Ciolos also said that the prime minister’s salary will decrease. editor@romania-insider.com
