Romanian Parliament called from recess to read no-confidence motion against Government

The Romanian Parliament reunites on Thursday, May 22, for the reading of a no-confidence motion submitted by the National Liberal Party (PNL) against the current Government led by the social-democrat Victor Ponta. The members of the parliament will however not debate the motion and vote it until next week, according to Mediafax newswire. The Parliament is currently in recess to allow Romanian politicians to prepare for the elections for the European Parliament on Sunday, May 25. The no-confidence motion was initiated by PNL, but other opposition parties joined, so a total of 231 senators and representatives signed it. It was submitted to the parliament on May 13. PNL was part of the first two Governments led by Victor Ponta as a member of the Social LIberal Union (USL), but the alliance broke in February this year and PNL went into opposition. editor@romania-insider.com
