Romanian movies you should not miss – second part

Romanian cinema has started to become well known abroad after numerous movies directed by Romanians and produced locally received awards at international film festivals. Romania-insider.com continues its series presenting must-see Romanian movies released after the fall of communism. This week we are looking at five more recent Romanian movies you should not miss. (watch trailers below) The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu

directed by Andrei Ujica, 2010 documentary about communist ruling couple Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu movie preview on October 28, 18,00 hours, at Sala Palatului; tickets cost RON 5 and can be bought from Eminescu bookshop, Victoria store, Muzica store. The movie will be on at the Hollywood Multiplex , AFI Cotroceni, Cinema Studio and the New Cinema of the Romanian Director from October 29. The documentary is part of a trilogy on communism, which also features 'Videograms from a revolution', created by Andrei Ujica and Harun Farucki in 1992 and 'Out of the present' from 1995.

Kapitalism, reteta noastra secreta (Kapitalism, our secret recipe)

directed by Alexandru Solomon, 2010, a Romania – France – Belgium production documentary about the rise of the capitalist power in Romania after the fall of the communism The film offers incredible access to top magnates – at home, in their offices and in their minds – building a bitter-sweet portrait of a new ruling class.

Lumea vazuta de Ion B (The World According to Ion B.)

documentary directed by Alexandru Nanau, 2009; an HBO Romania production The film follows in real life the dream of any man living on the streets: to one day become famous and leave behind a life of poverty, misery and humiliation. Ion Barladeanu is on his way to becoming an important contemporary artist, but in May 2008 he was still an anonymous tramp on the streets of Bucharest. The documentary got the Best Balkan Documentary award at Dokufest

Restul e tacere (The Rest is Silence)

directed by Nae Caranfil, 2007 comedy; the movie is set in the Bucharest of the 1900s
