Romanian Ministry: MiG-21 aircraft's additional fuel tanks, separated from the plane and fell in an unpopulated area

The additional fuel tanks of a MiG-21 LanceR aircraft from 71st Câmpia Turzii Air Base got separated from the plane and fell in an unpopulated area during a training flight, according to a statement of the Romanian ministry of National Defense. The incident took place on Tuesday, October 21. According to the ministry, a commission of the General Staff is investigating the circumstances under which the incident took place. Sources within the ministry told local news agency Mediafax that first investigations show that a technical failure caused the incident. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
