Romanian manager cheats 12 retailers of EUR 2.45 mln

Traian Miclaus, manager of the former provider of meal and gift vouchers Euroticket, was indicted on Friday, January 9, by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) after he had cheated 12 large retailers with more than EUR 2.45 million, by not discounting the meal and gift vouchers which had arrived in stores. Investigators say the store chains include Dedeman, Romania Hypermarche, Kaufland, Auchan Romania, Rewe Romania, Mega Image, Real Hypermarket, Profi Rom Food, Lidl Discount, Billa Romania, Artima and Carrefour Romania SA. Traian Miclaus embezzled about EUR 750,000 between June 2010 and June 2011, by paying consultancy services offered to himself, according to DNA prosecutors. The embezzlement prejudice amounts to EUR 750,000, while the abuse of office prejudice reaches EUR 1.95 million. editor@romania-insider.com
