Romanian language lesson of the week: What time is it? (Cât este ceasul?)

Cât e ceasul / cât este ceasul? (What time is it?) Cât e ora / cât este ora? (What time is it?) Ce oră e / ce oră este? (What time is it?) Vă rog să îmi spuneți cât este ceasul? (Please tell me what time is it) Spuneți-mi vă rog, cât e ora? (Tell me please, what time is it?) Știți cât este ceasul? (Do you know what time is it?)

“e” is the short form of “este” (it is). The last three questions above are formal. If you want to ask a friend what time is it, you have to change the verb. Exemple (Examples):

Te rog să îmi spui cât este ceasul. (Please tell me what time is it) Spune-mi te rog, cât e ora? (Tell me please, what time is it?) Știi cât este ceasul? (Do you know what time is it?)

Răspunsurile pot fi (The answers can be):

Este unu fix. (It's one o'clock sharp) Este unu și 10 minute. (It's ten past one) Este unu și un sfert. (It's quarter past one) Unu și jumătate. (It's half past one) Două fără un sfert. (It's quarter to two) Este aproape 1. (It's almost one o'clock) Este aproximativ ora 1. (It's about one o'clock)
