The adverbs are important parts of speech in Romanian. If you want to use an adverb into a sentence, you can say the adverb in front of the verb or after the verb. Its position is not fixed. [audio:http://www.romania-insider.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/adverbs1.mp3|titles=adverbs] Example (Exemple) Acum am de scris un email (I have to write an email now) or Am de scris un email acum. Usual adverbs in Romanian (Adverbe uzuale în limba română)
acum = engl. now aici = engl. here acolo = engl. there ieri = engl. yesterday alaltăieri = engl. the day before yesterday astăzi (azi) = engl. today mâine = engl. tomorrow poimâine = engl. the day after tomorrow mereu / întotdeauna = engl. always niciodată = engl. never uneori = engl. sometimes Adverbial phrases (Expresii adverbiale) în fiecare zi = engl. every day în fiecare dimineață = engl. every morning în fiecare seară = engl. every evening acum 3 zile (cu 3 zile în urmă) = engl. three days ago săptămâna aceasta (asta) = engl. this week anul acesta (ăsta) = engl. this year săptămâna trecută = engl. last week anul trecut = engl. last year săptămâna viitoare / următoare = engl. next week anul viitor / următor = engl. next year
Remarks (Observații)
The adverbial phrase “în fiecare zi” is used only when it expresses a time point. Ex.: Merg la piață în fiecare zi (I go to the market every day).
If we have a sentence like “Every day is beautiful”, the translation in Romanian is: Fiecare zi este frumoasă, because “every day” (“fiecare zi”) is the subject of our sentence. In this case, we don't use the preposition “în” in front of the phrase. The rule is available for all the similar phrases (în fiecare dimineață – every morning, în fiecare seară – every evening, în fiecare an – every year). The difference between the phrases “săptămâna trecută / viitoare” and “anul trecut / viitor” is as follows: “săptămâna” is a feminine noun and “anul” is a masculine noun. In Romanian, the first word of a phrase is usually the noun. If the noun is masculine / feminine, the adjective will be in the masculine /feminine as well. In our case, “trecută / viitoare” is feminine and “trecut / viitor” is masculine. Exercise (Exercițiu) Write sentences using the next adverbs and phrases: acum (now), mâine (tomorrow), în fiecare zi (every day), săptămâna viitoare (next week). Mona Pologea, Ph.D Linguist
