Romanian firm owned by French post service makes EUR 10 mln from parcel services in 2012

Parcel distribution company DPD Romania ended 2012 with a turnover of EUR 10.1 million, higher by a quarter than in 2011. The company, owned by the national French postal company, La Poste via its subsidiary GeoPost, saw its Romanian business perform better than expected, with the initial growth estimation at 15 percent. This year, the company aims for an increase of 18 percent. The growth in 2012 was mainly due to the company's focus on new services for business to consumer clients (B2C), mostly for e-commerce companies. Last year, DPD Romania invested EUR 1.2 million in software and IT systems for B2C deliveries in the online segment. Investment in 2013 will be half last year's figure, with some EUR 600,000 to go to efficient technological and operational systems, and to new solutions and services for business to consumer clients. The company's strategy is to position itself as the specialist in B2C and a partner of small and medium enterprises, said Lucian Aldescu, CEO of DPD Romania. DPD Romania, whose majority shareholder is GeoPost, part of Le Groupe La Poste, became active in Romania in 2008, when it took over local courier firm Pegasus. In March 2008, GeoPost Yurtici Kargo bought Pegasus and turned it into DPD Romania. The company currently has 500 employees – including the franchises in Romania, runs 52 warehouses and delivers 15,000 packages daily.
