Romanian finance minister: Bill removing 102 taxes will have a budget impact of EUR 355 mln

The impact of the draft law that provides the removal of 102 non-fiscal taxes starting January 1, 2017, amounts to RON 1.6 billion (over EUR 355 million), namely 0.2% of the GDP, or double compared to the level estimated by the bill’s initiators, finance minister Anca Dragu said yesterday. The minister also said that these taxes are not included in the Fiscal Code. “They are all set by other special laws. Only the tax related to the criminal record was included in the Fiscal Code, but this was removed in 2015,” Dragu explained. The Senate approved on Monday the bill initiated by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) to remove 102 non-fiscal taxes by the end of this year. They include the TV-radio tax, which is an important financing source for the public television, consular fees or the fees paid for getting a temporary passport. PSD president Liviu Dragnea also wants to remove trade registry taxes or the environmental taxes for motor-vehicles. editor@romania-insider.com
