Romanian films make it to Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section

Two Romanian films were recently selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes film festival this year. Corneliu Porumboiu’s film Comoara ( The treasure) is part of this year’s selection. The film stars both professional and amateur actors, and its script is signed by the director himself. Radu Muntean's feature - enght moie 'Un etaj mai jos'( A floor below) was also selected for the same section. The film presents the inner life of a witness to a crime. Un Certain Regard is part of the official Cannes selection and happens at the same time as the official competition. Films selected for this section usually have diverse and original visions and styles. The Romanian movie Comoara focuses on two men who go through several surprising events in their atempt to discover a treasure. The film was financed by the Romanian National Cinema Center, with some RON 1.5 million – or some EUR 340,000. Porumboiu is one of the most famous Romanian film directors. He was awarded the Camera D’Or at the Cannes film festival in 2006. His film Policemen, Adjective, was also selected for the Un Certain Regard in 2009. The Cannes Film Festival takes place between May 13 and 24 this year. Actress and director Isabella Rossellini will run the jury for the Un Certain Regard section.
