Romanian drivers can now pay for Romanian road tax via text message

Drivers can now pay for Romanian road tax - the rovinieta - via SMS. The new service started today (December 5 ) but is currently only available on the Orange network. To use the service, drivers simply text the vehicle type and registration to 7500 and follow the instructions to confirm the payment. The cost is EUR 2.74, for cars and is valid for seven days. For goods vehicles with a total weight below 12 tons, the price is EUR 9.43. If drivers are unsure about the type rovinieta needed they can text INFO to the same number for detail. Further inquiries can be made on 1788 (normal Orange call tariff). So far, Romanian drivers could buy the rovinieta at the major gas stations, but in many cases the electronic systems for the rovinieta were not working.
