Romanian Consumer Protection Association warns of dangerous jellies

The Consumer Protection Association (APC), a Romanian NGO that promotes consumer rights in Romania, claims that the jellies sold on the local market contain substances that can become dangerous in certain amounts. Thus, 75% of the sweets contain animal protein, and half of them are colored with a sort of red tone obtained from a species of cockroaches, according to APC. Nine out of ten jellies available on the local market contain citric acid, three out of four products contain animal protein, one if four is colored with a sort of brilliant blue and one of two are colored with cochineal red.
