Romanian banks grant over EUR 800 mln from EIB to small and medium enterprises

Romanian banks granted EUR 822 million in loans from funds made available by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the last 22 years, which was 4.7 percent of the total given to banks in Central and Eastern Europe to finance investments. This was in line with what happened in other countries in the region, “for some the weight is bigger, for others, smaller. I cannot say that our involvement in financing small and medium enterprises in Romania is out of the pattern,” said Plutarchos Sakellaris, the EIB vice-president, quoted by Mediafax. Last year, the EIB granted some EUR 2 billion to banks in the region for lending, and Romanian companies attracted EUR 125 million, which is 6.2 percent of the total. The EIB signed a EUR 50 million loan with BCR on Thursday destined to lending for small and medium enterprises in Romania. editor@romania-insider.com
