Romanian tennis player Alexandra Cadantu has reached the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the first time. Alexandra, currently 110 in the WTA rankings, defeated Spanish player Silvia Soler Espinosa, at the Monterrey tournament in Mexico with a 7-6 , 6-3 straight sets win.
Cadantu, aged 21, managed to enter the top 100 last year, reaching 96 on November 7, 2011. She will play for a place in the semifinals on Friday against another Spaniard, Lourdes Dominguez Lino (112 WTA). For reaching the quarterfinals, Alexandra will receive 70 WTA points and USD 5,340. Romanian Sorana Cirstea failed to qualify for the quarterfinals, losing to Timea Babos from Hungary in four sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Alex Camburu, alex.camburu@romnaia-insider.com
